Knowing two heads are always better than one, Rachel Barrera and Terri Booser combined their individual businesses to form Sugar & Spice Draperies and Shades, LLC. With their extensive knowledge, experience and talents, they create a dynamic duo to design and fabricate unique and highly crafted window treatments throughout the Metropolitan Houston area.
Rachel Barrera has been in the custom soft furnishings industry, encompassing design fabrication and installation for 19 years. From 2000 to 2016 she owned Shorty’s Window, designing and fabricating window treatments primarily for retail clients.
Her passion for her craft and industry can be witnessed through the offices she serves: president of The Houston Area Custom Drapery Association (HACDA) since 2012 and President of the Houston Chapter of The Window Coverings Association of America since June of 2016. Her talent can not only be viewed through her extensive client portfolio, but is also obvious with her ensuing the three-time winner (2014, 2015 and 2016) of the Window Fashions Artisan Project (WFAP), a national annual design competition,where she designed and fabricated an innovative themed treatment to be displayed at the International Window Coverings Expo, Vision.
Terri Booser has been in the custom soft furnishings industry, encompassing design, fabrication and installation for 29 years. From 1990 to June of 2012 she owned An Interior Stitch, a custom workroom in Wattsburg, PA which catered to long distance design accounts across the country.
In addition to running An Interior Stitch Terri was very active with the Custom Home Furnishings Academy since 2005. She has been a conference speaker, Career Professional Instructor, Curriculum Director and Executive Director as well as a past partial owner of the CHF Academy, LLC.
Terri and her husband moved to Houston in 2013 and started two businesses, Studio of Drapery and Fabrication Arts, and JB Executive Installations, LLC. Terri met Rachel this same year and began collaborating and sharing work shortly after. She is delighted to find such a talented counterpart to partner with.
Awards and Recognitions
Terri’s window treatments have been displayed at the the International Window Coverings Expo, Vision in addition to being published in Window Fashions Trade Magazine and Drapery and Design Professional. Her fabrication has won her designer, Sabrina Teekah, the prestigious, Designer’s Debut Envision award in 2008 and was featured on the cover of The Custom Home Furnishings Magazine, now entitled Drapery and Design Professional.
Rachel is the three-time winner of the Window Fashions Artisan Project (WFAP), a national annual design competition, where she designed and fabricated an innovative themed treatment to be displayed at the International Window Coverings Expo, Vision and subsequently published in the corresponding trade magazine, Vision.
